How To Start A Movement

This is one of my favorite videos. The idea of starting a movement seems so simple, but here it is actually broken down into parts and analyzed. Enjoy!

  1. This can be a lot like how technology is introduced into a school district. The additional step at the beginning would have to be a supportive administration. There are many schools who are so rigid to their curriculum, nothing extra can be added. I have heard horror stories about how every teacher has to teach the same thing, at the same time, in the same way. I am glad my district allows me to do what I want in regards to curriculum. As long as I follow Iowa Core standards as to what should be taught, I have a lot of freedom. I started using technology, and many people thought it was fluff or not needed. Eventually, I had one person on board, and then everyone was using technology in some way.

  2. I like that he said the first follower is often a first leader too. It would be really hard to be you Clay, the first person to start something, but imagine being that other teacher who joins your ship. He took a risk branching out onto the "tech side" when he could have played it safe, or he could be the start of a new crew--risky business!
